Sheep

Over  the years we have had many different types of sheep here on the farm.   Currently we have Horned Dorsets, Hampshires, Scottish Blackface and a  few commercial crossbred ewes.     WE CURRENTLY HAVE USDA CERTIFIED CUTS  OF LAMB AVAILABLE FOR SALE.  contact us for details and a pickup  schedule.

The  Scottish Blackface sheep is another of the old breeds.  They were the  backbone of the hill country sheep industry for centuries and have been  used for crossbreeding in many different ways.  As a breed, they have  impacted many of the  breeds of sheep that we have today.  Reported to  be hardy and versatile, we decided to add a few late in 2014.  Time will  tell how well they will work for us here, but I am optimistic that they  will produce well for us.  UPDATE:  The Scottish Blackface ewes have  started lambing and so far are doing a good job.  The Scottish Blackface  ram was a very active breeder and we will have a good number of  dorset/Scottish blackface wethers for sale

Hampshire  sheep have been well known for producing fast growing, meaty lambs and  have often been used as terminal sire on many wooled breeds.  Large  framed and heavily muscled, they are often used in the production of  club lambs here in the southeast and around the country.  We added a few  in 2015 and hope to raise a number of good lambs and maybe a few rams  to be used on crossbred flocks nearby.
